Health Benefits of Neem and More

The health and other benefits of neem are tremendous. This article is focused on the health and other benefits of neem oil so as other neem derivatives.

What is Neem?

Neem is the common name of an extremely important tree native to the Indian subcontinent, although it now grows in certain parts of the Middle East as well. With the scientific name of Azadirachta indica, neem trees are actually in the mahogany family of trees, Meliaceae.

In the ancient Indian language Sanskrit, the neem tree is called “Aristha” or “reliever of sicknesses.” In the Vedas (a large body of texts originating in ancient India, which make up the oldest known scriptures of Hinduism), neem is known as “Sarva Roga Nivarini” meaning “One that cures all ailments and ills.”

Neem is referred to as the “Miracle Tree” and because of its tremendous medical properties, the neem tree is also considered to be a “village pharmacy” in India. Extracts of neem leaves, twigs, bark, seeds, and flowers are integral components of many traditional remedies in the Indian medical system of Ayurveda. These remedies date back, by some accounts, nearly 5,000 years.

More than 60 different biologically active neem tree compounds have been identified and used for a wide variety of health and medical applications. Some of these include nimbin, nimbolide, azadirachtin A, nimbidiol, quercetin, and nimbidin.

Neem trees grow very rapidly and have broad-spreading leaves, which they can drop quickly in a drought so as to protect the rest of the trees. This quality makes them extremely resilient to challenging environments; it is primarily found in tropical and subtropical zones and thrives there. The flowers are very fragrant and white in color, while the fruit of the neem tree is a small drupe with a bittersweet pulp.

Neem leaves are widely sought after and are a major industry in the subcontinents, as these valuable leaves can be used for many different things. The oil from the leaves can be extracted and used in a wide variety of medicines, while the leaves can be dried and used as an herb or even as a pest repellent. In many areas of India, the shoots and flowers of the tree are also used in culinary applications. Neem contains a unique composition of organic compounds and beneficial components, making products derived from neem very popular in alternative and herbal remedies. From tea and garnishes to skin salves and herbal supplements, it is considered as one of the most important and versatile plants in Indian culture.

Neem Research

The miraculous healing gift to humanity!

German Canadian Klaus Ferlow was one of the first to introduce the miraculous healing products from the Indian neem tree to the West.

As a teenager he'd developed a stubborn case of psoriasis which was resistant to both conventional and alternative treatments.

His life changed 40 years later when he found out about the remarkable healing properties of neem, a plant that healers in India have used for thousands of years. Within a few weeks neem had finally freed him of the life-long conditions.

As a manufacturer of botanicals, Klaus was in the ideal position to develop a variety of neem products and make them available to the North American market, as early as 1994.

Klaus is the author of the best consumer book ever written about neem in which he traces his own healing journey and his lifelong fascination with the versatile neem tree from Canada to the Indian sub-continent where the tree originated. The book includes a valuable guide to herbs and extensive reference section. It lists many useful healing applications of neem, and explores its politics and history. The endearing story of neem is told through the eyes of one of its most enthusiastic advocates. Klaus Ferlow has since established the NEEM RESEARCH organization to protect and promote this precious healing gift to humanity.

Neem: Nature's Healing Gift to Humanity

There are a variety of natural products made from neem components and we are happy to list a few here below. We will add more products over time.

Neem & Sandal Cream

"Snigdhkanti" Neem & Sandal cream is a very effective way of treating skin infections, fungal infections, boils, pimples, athlete's foot and mild rashes. It is a completely natural and fine blend of neem oil, sandal oil and other herbal medicinal oils.

It is completely natural and uses the properties of these medicinal herbs to provide an effective solution. Let us understand why it is so effective for skin problems.

Neem Oil:

The vital ingredient of this cream is Neem Oil.

Neem oil obtained from crushing the seeds of the neem tree has a wide range of benefits and is highly medicinal in nature. Neem preparations can get rid of Fungal Infections effectively, quickly and safely. Neem has been found to be deadly to 14 different common fungi including those that cause infections of the vagina, skin, hands and lungs (Candida), athlete's foot and "ringworm" (Epidermophyton). Neem oil is also used for skin diseases likes scrofula and indolent ulcers.

How Neem works on the skin?

Ancient Vedic medical texts such as the Sushrita Sanhita have demonstrated that neem somehow inhibits the multiplication of viruses by combining with the skin cells. This blockage of virus growth imparts the germicidal and anti allergic properties to neem. Neem is reported to be effective in treating certain Fungi that infect the human body such as Athlete's Foot fungus that infects hair, skin and nails.

Sandal Oil:

This is the other important ingredient that has been used in the preparation of the Neem Cream. Sandalwood oil is extracted from the sandalwood tree. The sandal tree grows mainly in south India, and is used not only for medicinal purposes, but also as a perfume because of its aromatic property.

Sandal for the Skin:

Sandalwood is good for all skin types, in particular dry and oily skin and acne. Even as it has moisturizing properties, it is a mild astringent and antiseptic. Sandalwood is also soothing for cracked, chapped and irritated skin. It is also recommended for mature and tired skin as well as stretch marks and scars.

Sandalwood paste is found to be effective as an effective remedy for prickly heat. The paste applied prevents excessive sweating and heals inflamed skin.

Neem Leaf Powder

Neem leaf powder is very effective in cases of skin infections when applied as a paste.

Also used in "herbal enemas", the strained mixture of Neem leaf powder is extremely effective in conditions of amoebic intestinal infections and ulcerative colitis.

Skin Aura

Skin is the largest organ of the human body and often the most abused organ as well. As if pollution and dead cells were not enough to make our skin look dull, we are straddled with a variety of skin disorders like:

  • Skin Allergies;
  • Skin Rash;
  • Fungal Infections: Ring Worm, Acne.

The patches due to infection and the scars due to acne are not only causes of itchy skin but also make us irritable and can cause great psychological trauma due to the disfigurement of our face and body.

Acne (Pimples):

Acne occur when the follicles get blocked. Sebum (oil), which normally drains to the surface, gets blocked and bacteria begins to grow.

While not a life threatening condition, acne can be upsetting and disfiguring. Severe acne can also lead to permanent scarring. Acne can sometimes be managed with over the counter treatments, but may also in the process give side effects.

Side effects of anti-acne drugs may vary from extra dry skin, slight redness, peeling, and stinging, blistering, crusting or swelling of the skin, severe burning or redness of the skin, darkening or lightening of the skin or skin rash.

To avoid the side effects it is best to go for natural cures.

Ring Worm Symptoms and Infection:

Ringworm symptoms are caused by a group of fungi called (dermatophytes). They effect the upper layer of the skin, hair and nails. In ringworm infection, the wounds formed are red and scaly in appearance. They are circular patches which show a peripheral boundary, thereby forming a ring from which the disease derives its name.

The ringworm of groin occurs almost exclusively in men. Friction, warmth and moisture in this region promotes fungal growth.

The 100% Natural Skin Aura is very effective in treating ring worm infections, even ring worm in children. It should be applied two times daily for not less than eight weeks in infection of the feet and four weeks in the infection for other reason.

While maintaining hygiene of skin , and taking care not to share towels help, what our skin needs is a strong, natural external support to provide a natural boost and immunity.

Skin Aura is a powerful blend of natural herbs proven for their therapeutic properties. This blend, not only cures and soothes, but also does not have any side effects because it is 100 % Natural (unlike several over-the-counter anti-acne drugs and steroidal or cortisone creams).

How Skin Aura works?

The answer to this lies in the composition of Skin Aura. It consists of herbs all of which in combination work together to bring out the desired effect. Skin Aura contains 100 % natural ingredients each of which brings unique therapeutic properties.

It consists of herbs like Neem, Tulsi, Mint (which contain anti-bacterial properties) and sandalwood (which cools the skin and absorbs extra oil from the applied area). Skin Aura also helps in removing scars formed due to acne.

The herbs used in Skin Aura have great therapeutic value and have been well documented in ancient medicinal texts in Ayurveda. They are Mother Nature's answer to skin infections, fungi (Tineasis or Ring Worm), Acne and even pigmentation.

Contents of Skin Aura

  • Tulsi (Indian basil) leaves: This treats patches, pimples, pigmentation and white spots, also soothes itching;
  • Mint : It is very good for pimples;
  • Neem : Brings rare anti-fungal and antibacterial properties; helps in itching and also dries pimples;

  2. Apply the paste on the affected area;
  3. Let dry. Wash off preferably with lukewarm water.

Skin Aura will provide your skin the natural treatment without the side effects of chemicals and help maintain the natural balance.

Word of Caution

Despite this vast range of potentially beneficial uses, there are some side effects associated with neem. Firstly, it should not be used or consumed by infants or toddlers, and those with existing kidney or liver issues should definitely consult a doctor before using neem leaves, paste, or oil. There is a chance of fatigue associated with neem, due to its slight sedative nature, so be cautious of overuse, particularly in conjunction with any other medications.
