After struggling against our own self-destructive tendencies throughout the entirety of recorded history, humanity is now at a point where that struggle is probably going to be resolved, one way or another, within the lifetime of most people reading this.

The movie about this struggle has been written with one of two possible endings. In the first, we are unable to overcome our self-destructive tendencies, and the last of our species dies by radiation poisoning or choking on the dust of an uninhabitable planet. In the second, we evolve beyond our self-destructive tendencies and move into a healthy relationship with our minds, our ecosystem, and each other.

Neither of these two endings would work in a Hollywood blockbuster. In the first, humanity dies off not with a bang but with a whimper as a result of nuclear fallout or climate collapse. In the second, conflict and drama as we know it will cease to exist as we pull up and away from the self-destructive patterns which brought us to this point. We’ll either keep along this same destructive trajectory and meet its inevitable end very soon, or we’ll deviate from that trajectory into something wildly different. In either case, there is no kissing the girl while the credits roll, no coolly striding away from the explosion, and no spin-kicking the bad guy off a cliff into lava after uttering a short, memorable line.

I say this because it seems like a lot of people are kind of hoping for a Hollywood ending in some way. People are hoping that Donald Trump gets arrested for conspiring with Russia and dragged off in chains and everything goes back to normal. People are hoping that President Trump drains the swamp, locks up Hillary Clinton, arrests most of Capitol Hill for child molestation, and destroys the Deep State. People are hoping there’s a violent revolution which restores individual sovereignty to the citizenry. People are hoping there’s a peaceful people’s revolution which ousts the ruling class and replaces the status quo with whatever their personal favored strain of leftism is. Everyone’s subconsciously looking for some big, momentous climax where the Good Guys are vindicated and the Bad Guys are brought to justice.

And it just isn’t going to go down like that.

If you’ve paid much attention to human behavior throughout your life, you know that we reliably repeat the same patterns until there’s inner healing and personal growth. If you’ve experienced inner healing and personal growth, you know that the actual experience of it is generally anti-climactic. True healing is always a game of subtraction, and it moves in the exact opposite direction of the egoically satisfying mental narratives which Hollywood has grown so skilled at providing us. When true inner healing takes place, it doesn’t usually make for a good story, and its effects often go unnoticed for some time, because they are evidenced not in the addition of something new but in the subtraction of something old. You look at your memories of your old unwholesome behavior patterns and think “Hmm, how strange that I used to do that sort of thing!”

If humanity transcends its unwholesome patterns at the end of this movie, it’s going to happen in much the same way. Not in an egoically gratifying way where we see our most hated political figures punished and our own ideological preferences uplifted, but in the simple falling away of old patterns. If human consciousness evolves to the point where we can avert our own destruction, then it will necessarily have dropped the egoic patterns of fear, greed and negativity which kept us bound to our old destructive behaviors. Were that to happen, we’d probably struggle to even remember what we used to stress and rage about when looking at the state of our world.

Nothing else will do the trick. If we do come to some dramatic, egoically satisfying climax, like where all the oligarchs and warmongers are guillotined and their wealth distributed among the needy or whatever, then it isn’t the end of the movie. We have not arrived at a point where we’ve transcended our old patterns, we’ve just seen those old patterns manifest in a way which happens to be egoically pleasing to us in this particular instance. And we will soon see them manifest in ways which we find far from pleasing again.

We will not arrive at our happy ending unless we collectively heal away those old egoic addictions to drama and conflict. Even if we did somehow manage to create a utopia without healing away those old egoic addictions, it would be quickly destroyed and the countdown to doomsday restarted by the gnashing, looping patterns which brought us to the brink of extinction in the first place.

Because guess what? From the perspective of our current state of drama-addicted and conflict-addicted collective consciousness, a world without drama and conflict is dull and worthless. Those addictions will keep leading us toward our destruction until we shed them, if for no other reason than our psychological inability to live in a peaceful, harmonious world.

Are you able to live in a peaceful, harmonious world? A world that is boring to the ego and unsuitable for Hollywood scripts? When I look at the behavior of a lot of activists on social media, it seems like a lot of them fear an end to drama and conflict more than they fear the end of the world. It sounds funny to say, but I think this is legitimately the case for many people. Our addiction to drama and conflict is so strong and our ability to just be at peace in the here and now so weak that keeping things from becoming harmonious can feel like an existential life-and-death need. And we all know people who are strongly predisposed toward stirring up drama to feed that illusory need.

To be able to live in a peaceful world where we collaborate harmoniously with our ecosystem and our fellow humans, we’ll have to transcend our inability to simply be. To have a world where all human ingenuity is pointed at making the world a better place instead of inventing new ways to create landfill for mass consumption and new ways to kill and exploit each other, we’re going to have to have minds that are able to survive in an environment with a lot less conflict, and, once our ingenuity really gets going, a lot less work as well. Minds that can rest comfortably without frenetic busyness or drama. Such minds are currently rare among our species.

The reason there are so many Hollywood movies about dystopian futures and hardly any about utopian futures is because there is no drama and conflict in utopia. Hollywood movies bring in the big bucks by being egoically pleasing to watch; it’s ego candy to watch heroes kicking villains off cliffs, because we can place ourselves in the role of the protagonist and imagine ourselves emerging triumphantly from the drama and conflicts displayed on the screen.

This is why I refer to myself as a “utopia prepper”. In order to have a peaceful, harmonious world, we’re going to have to have minds that are receptive to such a thing. I consider cultivating such a mind to be the most important thing I do in paving the way for paradise on earth, abandoning all attachments to our old ways of operating and opening a path within myself for something new. This will necessarily happen among us all if we’re to see the happy ending of this movie, and if we do it won’t be spectacular. It won’t be egoically gratifying. We’ll simply cease engaging in unwholesome patterns in a very anti-climactic way, begin channeling our ingenuity into making the world a better place, and perhaps once in a while look back on history and think, “Hmm, how strange that we used to do that sort of thing!”

The world of personal development is certainly an interesting one. As the shelves in your local bookstore and the search results on Google suggest, it is undoubtedly quite oversaturated with both redundant and often contradictory advice on how to improve your life.

Whether it be coming from well-recognized forces in the industry such as Tony Robbins and Lisa Nichols, or from people such as myself who would love to one day become that much of a force, there are plenty of resources available to us. And while I’m sure we can all list off a self-help book or two we’ve read that we believe the world would be better without, the main reason why this content continues to be created at such a rapid pace is that we continue to seek it out.

You’d think that the content’s intention to improve our lives from that point forward would naturally give the industry a relatively short life, but it instead continues to thrive because we collectively seem to have an incredibly difficult time applying it. We get amped up after reading a great chapter or after completing a powerful exercise, but two days later forget what we’ve learned and slip back into the busy nature of our daily lives.

With this piece I’d like to combat that tendency by making personal development as easy as possible. Here’s my take on how to improve your life in 3 simple steps:

Step 1 – What Makes You Happy?

Step 1 simply involves taking 10-15 minutes to write out everything (and I mean everything) that makes you happy in life. If you enjoy taking your dog for a walk, write it down. If you enjoy reading in bed, write it down. If you enjoy playing rugby, write it down.

Step 2 – What’s Regularly On Your To Do List?

Whether or not you actively create a to do list, step 2 requires you to set aside another 10-15 minutes to write out everything that you currently do on a regular weekly basis. From going to work to making meals to playing a sport to driving your kids to and from school, write out anything and everything that typically consumes your time.

Step 3 – Adjust Accordingly

You may have guessed where this was going, but yes, the mind-blowing, life-altering advice is to simultaneously look at both of those lists and adjust accordingly.

The human experience may be incredibly complicated, and I’m sure that we all have deep seeded issues that we would likely benefit from an in-depth analysis on, but we’re also not as complicated as we think.

And no, I am not suggesting that we all immediately ditch everything on list number 2 to instead strictly dedicate our lives to the items on list number 1. What I am suggesting is that one of the simplest ways to profoundly improve our lives is by making more regular time for the things that we enjoy.

I know that we all lead busy lives and that we have our fair share of responsibilities, but if you found the time to read this article I’m willing to bet that you have at least a little wiggle room. It ultimately boils down to prioritization, and what could be better than to prioritize the things that you genuinely love at least a bit more?

A group of Democrats are hoping that they can roll back the war on drugs with a new federal marijuana legalization bill.

Dubbed the Marijuana Justice Act of 2019, the bill would see marijuana finally removed from the federal list of controlled substances, legalizing the plant on a nationwide level and removing a range of obstacles from vendors and purveyors across the United States.

The bill would also expunge the criminal records of anyone who had been charged with possession while also calling for anyone currently incarcerated for the offense to petition for an immediate re-sentencing. Those convicted under prohibition laws would also be provided job training and resources under the act.

The bill was introduced by New Jersey Democratic senator and presidential hopeful Cory Booker and Democratic California Representatives Barbara Lee and Ro Khanna. Booker’s presidential competitors Sens. Bernie Sanders (D-VT), Kamala Harris (D-CA) and Elizabeth Warren have also co-sponsored the bill.

600,000 people, disproportionately people of color, were arrested for possession of marijuana in 2017.

It is time to decriminalize marijuana, expunge past marijuana convictions and end the failed war on drugs.

Supporters of the bill have cited the disproportionate impact of cannabis prohibitionist laws on historically oppressed nationalities and communities across the United States, leading to the prosecution and jailing of largely nonviolent cannabis users.

In her statement on the bill published by the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML), Lee said:

“In addition to incentivizing states to legalize marijuana, the Marijuana Justice Act seeks to repair some of the damage marijuana prohibition has done to this country’s most vulnerable communities. For those communities that have been economically and socially disenfranchised by overcriminalization and cyclical incarceration, this legislation provides funding to programs focused on youth development, citizen re-entry, job training, health education, and funding for community resources such as public libraries and community centers.“

Booker similarly derided the war on drugs, tweeting:

 “The failed War on Drugs has really been a war on people—disproportionately criminalizing poor people, people of color & people with mental illness. I’m reintroducing the #MarijuanaJustice Act to begin reversing our failed federal drug policies.”

Booker has long enjoyed a record of fighting to reform marijuana laws, having introduced a version of the Marijuana Justice Act in 2017. He has promised that federal legalization will be a major focus of his campaign along with criminal justice reform, which he has remarked“means changing our drugs laws. Ending prohibition against marijuana.”

According to studies by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), there were over eight million marijuana-related offenses in the U.S. between 2001 and 2010 – 88 percent of which were for possession.

The ACLU also found that black people are 3.7 times more likely to be arrested for cannabis possession than white people, despite both groups using the plant at similar rates.

In 1996, California became the first state to legalize cannabis for medical use, and over than 30 states have since done the same. Ten states along with Washington, D.C. have freed the herb almost entirely, allowing adults over 21 to partake in the recreational use of cannabis. However, cannabis remains illegal under U.S. federal law.

2018 report by the Drug Policy Alliance found that even in states where marijuana had been legalized, people of color still faced a far greater rate of arrests on marijuana possession charges than their white counterparts.

A recent poll by the Pew Research Center also found that 62 percent of U.S. residents, including 74 percent of millennials, favor an end to the prohibition of cannabis.

In a statement, NORML Political Director Justin Strekal hailed the Marijuana Justice Act, commenting:

“The ongoing enforcement of cannabis prohibition financially burdens taxpayers, encroaches upon civil liberties, engenders disrespect for the law, impedes legitimate scientific research into the plant’s medicinal properties, and disproportionately impacts communities of color.

 

Communities of color have disproportionately suffered for decades because of our racist enforcement of marijuana laws and that must be addressed in the age of legalization through policies such as the Marijuana Justice Act.

 

It is time for federal lawmakers to acknowledge this reality. It is time to stop ceding control of the marijuana market to untaxed criminal enterprises, and for lawmakers to amend federal law in a manner that comports with available science, public opinion, and the rapidly changing cultural status of cannabis.”

Aldous Huxley once wrote to George Orwell:

“[The world’s rulers’] lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging and kicking them into obedience. In other words, I feel that the nightmare of Nineteen Eighty-Four is destined to modulate into the nightmare of a world having more resemblance to that which I imagined in Brave New World.”

Brain researchers believe they have the future of the world in their hands. For example, they assume that one day, they will be able to turn on or turn off circuits that induce pleasure and pain in humans. Easily, reliably, precisely.

If humans seek to find pleasure and avoid pain, or if they pursue goals that deliver pleasure as a side effect…why wait? Why go through the process of striving at all? Why not cut to the bottom line immediately and experience pleasure?

In an age where instant reward, entitlement, flickering attention, and entertainment are paramount, why not stimulate the brain and give people what they want?

Work is the middle-man. Eliminate it. The interval between desire and fulfillment is long. Erase it.

In the process, simplify human aspirations. Reduce them to a lowest common denominator. Assume that what a Tesla, a Rembrandt, a Beethoven achieved was unnecessarily complicated—the “same result” could have been handed to them on a silver platter.

Individual triumph? An outmoded concept. And why should one person accomplish more than another? It’s victimization. A cardinal sin.

If a thousand robots working in a factory can turn out more cars per day than their human counterparts, thus alleviating the stress of labor, then by analogy, delivering pleasure to a population through drugs or electromagnetic stimulation, bypassing the need for work, is a worthy objective.

These are the arguments, and a significant and growing percentage of the human race would find them persuasive and attractive.

“I’m bored (tired, frustrated, unhappy, confused). Give me pleasure. Now.”

Kent Berridge, PhD, at the University of Michigan Affective & Biopsychology Lab, writes(“Hedonic hotspots of ‘Liking’ — The brain’s pleasure gloss”):

“Pleasure arises within the brain. Sweetness or other natural pleasures are mere sensations as they enter the brain, and brain systems must actively paint the pleasure onto sensation to generate a ‘liking’ reaction — as a sort of pleasure gloss or varnish. Our lab has discovered brain generators of sensory pleasure, in the form of anatomical ‘hedonic hotspots’ in the brain, which use neurochemcal signals [to] paint intense pleasure on sensation, embedded within larger hedonic circuits. It is important to identify such pleasure-causing brain hedonic hotspots, neurochemicals and circuits, in order to identify true mechanisms of pleasure. The need to find true pleasure generators is especially pressing because hedonic circuit dysfunctions may underlie mood disorders and related clinical disorders, and because several other brain candidates once thought to mediate pleasure are now increasingly recognized to not cause pleasure after all (e.g., dopamine, electrical brain stimulation). Therefore we aim to find true causes and mechanisms in the brain for pleasure.”

Thousands of brain researchers all over the world believe they are on the road to curing “mood disorders.” But the big picture is quite different. It involves the shaping of society.

The individual, stripped of goals, vision, imagination, and creative force drops into a slow-motion vortex of despair; and painting a pleasure-gloss on his interior sensations is no cure.

It’s reduction.

Brain research has come a long way since Pavlov, but the basic formula is still the same: stimulate a reaction.

When Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, it cut short nearly 3,000 lives, displaced thousands of families, and subjected the commonwealth to the longest energy blackout in U.S. history. This tragedy invited a new vision for Puerto Rico’s battered electric grid, and I hoped that a central tenet of the rebuilding effort would be an aggressive move toward safe, abundant and resilient clean energy.

The Washington State House just passed a bill eliminating philosophical or personal exemptions from the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine. The bill is attempting to remove these exemptions and make the vaccination completely mandatory for all school children.  The lower chamber approved the measure in a 57-40 vote, according to The Associated Press. The bill will now head to the state Senate, which is expected to vote on a broader measure related to vaccines in the next week.

The Seattle Times reports that the vote “comes in in the midst of an outbreak that has sickened at least 71 people, mostly children age 10 and younger.”

The measure is sponsored by a lawmaker from that region, Republican Rep. Paul Harris of Vancouver, who said that the measure “will make our communities safer.” There were, of course, representatives opposed to this like Republican Rep. Norma Smith of Clinton, who said that most of the communication she’s gotten from voters in her district was in opposition to the bill. She urged that it’s important to “recognize that this is a complex issue and that we need to respect the decisions made by families. For us to take an action which doesn’t allow them to have a voice, I believe is wrong.”

What nobody is acknowledging is the fact that these outbreaks are happening in highly vaccinated populations. Vaccination coverage of MMR has not dropped, so why is the media saying that parents aren’t vaccinating and therefore measles is making a comeback? Washington State has a very high vaccination coverage for MRR.  See for yourself, here.

Furthermore, the mainstream never seems to acknowledge the fact that measles outbreaks have occurred in heavily vaccinated populations throughout history. For example, a study published in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases – whose authorship includes scientists working for the Bureau of Immunization, New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Atlanta, GA – looked at evidence from the 2011 New York measles outbreak, which showed that individuals with prior evidence of measles vaccination and vaccine immunity were both capable of being infected with measles and infecting others with it (secondary transmission). The study concluded that “measles may occur in vaccinated individuals, but secondary transmission from such individuals has not been documented.” (source)

“This is the first report of measles transmission from a twice vaccinated individual. The clinical presentation and laboratory data of the index were typical of measles in a naïve individual. Secondary cases had robust anamnestic antibody responses. No tertiary cases occurred despite numerous contacts. This outbreak underscores the need for thorough epidemiologic and laboratory investigation of suspected measles cases regardless of vaccination status.”

Throughout the 1980s, measles outbreaks in fully vaccinated children happened all over the US and other countries with high vaccination rates, yet most people don’t know about this, and we definitely don’t hear about it now.

These measles outbreaks may be due to a failing vaccine rather than a failure to vaccinate.  Another recent study published in the highly authoritative Bulletin of the World Health Organization looked at recent measles occurrences throughout China and found that there were 707 measles outbreaks in the country recorded between 2009 and 2012, with a steep upward trend in 2013. “The number of measles cases reported in the first 10 months of 2013 – 26443 – was three times the number reported in the whole of 2012.” This is odd considering that since 2009 “…the first dose of measles-virus-containing vaccine has reached more than 90% of the target population.” One would expect that with an increasing number of measles vaccinations there would be a decrease in measles occurrences.

Furthermore, let’s not forget that hundreds of children have died from the measles vaccine. According to a MedAlerts search of the FDA Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) database as of 2/5/19, the cumulative raw count of adverse events from measles, mumps, and rubella vaccines alone was: 93,929 adverse events, 1,810 disabilities, 6,902 hospitalizations, and 463 deaths. What is even more disturbing about these numbers is that VAERS is a voluntary and passive reporting system that has been found to only capture 1% of adverse events.

Below is a testimony from about a month ago at a public hearing in Washington State, it’s the testimony that’s not presented on mainstream media, but should be. Multiple doctors, scientists researchers and activists as well as political figures like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. gave their testimonies during the hearing. Below is the testimony of Dr. Brian Hooker, a long time biochemical engineer who has been researching this topic and publishing multiple peer-reviewed papers on it for decades.

In the video, he drops some facts a lot of people simply don’t know because they are never acknowledged in the mainstream. Even those who support mass vaccinations are usually completely unaware of these facts.

Vaccines are supposed to “exploit the immune system’s ability to ‘memorize’ encounters with previously unknown microbes.” However, as published studies describe, vaccines often fail to do this, or even backfire. In “primary” vaccine failure (estimated to affect at least 2% to 10% of healthy individuals), a vaccinated individual never produces any meaningful antibodies after initial (or booster) vaccination; in the case of “secondary” vaccine failure, protection wanes ‘after initial effectiveness.’

Another example comes from a 2017 measles outbreak in vaccinated individuals in Israel—reported on by the CDC—where all but one patient had laboratory evidence of a “previous immune response” (secondary vaccine failure), and the one patient who did not display such evidence reported having received two doses of the vaccine (primary vaccine failure). In addition, the index patient—the one who launched the chain of transmission—had received three doses of the measles-containing vaccine.

If we go back in history a little bit:

Barratta et al. (1970) investigated an outbreak in Florida from December 1968 to February 1969 and found little difference in the incidence of measles in vaccinated and unvaccinated children. (source)

Robertson et al. (1992) wrote that in 1985 and 1986, 152 measles outbreaks in US school-age children occurred among persons who had previously received the measles vaccine. “Every 2-3 years, there is an upsurge of measles irrespective of vaccination compliance.” (source)

In 2010, there were a number of children in Croatia who had contracted measles that were fully vaccinated (source). The interesting thing about this case was the fact that not only had they become infected with measles from the vaccine strain, rather than the normal “natural” strain, but they were also contagious.

 According to an article published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 1987, “An outbreak of measles occurred among adolescents in Corpus Christi, Texas, in the spring of 1985, even though vaccination requirements for school attendance had been thoroughly enforced.” They concluded that “outbreaks of measles can occur in secondary schools, even when more than 99 percent of the students have been vaccinated and more than 95 percent are immune.” (source)

 An article published in the American Journal of Epidemiology titled, “A persistent outbreak of measles despite appropriate prevention and control measures,” looked into an outbreak of 137 cases of measles in Montana. School records indicated that 98.7% of students were appropriately vaccinated, leading the researchers to conclude: “This outbreak suggests that measles transmission may persist in some settings despite appropriate implementation of the current measles elimination strategy.”(source)

According to an article published in the American Journal of Public Health in 1991, “In early 1988 an outbreak of 84 measles cases occurred at a college in Colorado in which over 98 percent of students had documentation of adequate measles immunity… due to an immunization requirement in effect since 1986. They concluded that “…measles outbreaks can occur among highly vaccinated college populations.” (source)

According to an article published in the Canadian Journal of Public Health in 1991, a 1989 measles outbreak was “largely attributed to an incomplete vaccination coverage,” but following an extensive review the researchers concluded that “incomplete vaccination coverage is not a valid explanation for the Quebec City measles outbreak.” (source)

According to an article published in the journal Revista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical, in a measles outbreak from March 1991 to April 1992 in Rio de Janeiro, 76.4% of those suspected to be infected had received measles vaccine before their first birthday. (source)

According to an article published in the South African Medical Journal in 1994, “[In] August 1992 an outbreak occurred, with cases reported at many schools in children presumably immunised.” Immunization coverage for measles was found to be 91%, and vaccine efficacy found to be only 79%, leading them to conclude that primary and secondary vaccine failure was a possible explanation for the outbreak. The Takeaway

The fact that these outbreaks are constantly blamed on unvaccinated children is not at all factual, yet it’s a narrative that’s continually pushed from the mainstream. It makes it quite clear that it’s important that we all do our own research and not rely on media sources that don’t acknowledge or present facts on both sides, but constantly push a specific narrative. Why is ridicule, fear and worry always used? Why aren’t the concerns ever addressed openly and publicly by mainstream media?

Modern science is only beginning to catch up to the wisdom of the ancients: plants possess sentience and a rudimentary form of intelligence. 

Plants are far more intelligent and capable than we given them credit. In fact, provocative research from 2010 published in Plant Signaling & Behavior proposes that since they cannot escape environmental stresses in the manner of animals, they have developed a “sophisticated, highly responsive and dynamic physiology,” which includes information processes such as “biological quantum computing” and “cellular light memory” which could be described as forms of plant intelligence. Titled, “Secret life of plants: from memory to intelligence,” the study highlights one particular “super power” of plants indicative of their success as intelligent beings:

“There are living trees that germinated long before Jesus Christ was born. What sort of life wisdom evolved in plants to make it possible to survive and propagate for so long a time in the same place they germinated?”

According to the researchers, “plants actually work as a biological quantum computing device that is capable to process quantum information encrypted in light intensity and in its energy.” This information processing includes a mechanism for processing memorized information. For example:

“plants can store and use information from the spectral composition of light for several days or more to anticipate changes that might appear in the near future in the environment, for example, for anticipation of pathogen attack.”

According to the study, “plants can actually think and remember.”

Moreover, plant not only possess a mechanism for information gathering and processing, but appear to exercise agency or “choice” vis-à-vis different scenarios:

“different group of chloroplasts and cells in the same leaf under identical constant and stable light, temperature and relative humidity condition have different opinion “what to do” in such conditions and tests different scenarios of possible future development.”

The study also offers an explanation for why plants absorb more light energy than is needed for photosynthesis alone:

“Another possible answer to the above question is a light training of young naïve leaves. Let’s imagine when young leaf or flower is emerging out of a plant, it would be nice for that leaf or flower to know about the conditions in which it is going to emerge. Older, more experienced leaves that actually are acclimated to outside conditions can train naïve emerging young leaves with the PEPS [photoelectrophysiological signaling ]and cellular light memory mechanisms. This explains why plants possess a natural capacity to absorb more light energy than that required for photosynthetic CO2 assimilation. They need this absorbed energy in excess for optimization and training of light acclimatory and immune defenses.”

The authors leave us with the provocative conclusion:

“Our results suggest that plants are intelligent organisms capable of performing a sort of thinking process (understood as at the same time and non-stress conditions capable of performing several different scenarios of possible future definitive responses), and capable of memorizing this training.17 Indeed leaves in the dark are able to not only “see” the light,8,34 but also are able to differently remember its spectral composition and use this memorized information to increase their Darwinian fitness.”

Why is this discovery important?

There are many reasons why recognizing the sentience and intelligence of plants may have positive implications for the future of humanity. For one, it helps us all to transcend the dominant worldview that non-human life forms are best defined in strictly mechanistic terms, and that attributing a “life essence” or consciousness to them is a form of magical thinking. French philosopher Maurice Merleau-Pointy called this world view the “Great Object,” namely, that everything in the universe is compromised of material objects externally related to one another, and with consciousness merely an ephemeral subjectivity found only in humans.

To the contrary, if we open ourselves to the possibility that we are all participants in an interconnected web of life, as many indigenous peoples believed and actually experienced things to be, destroying the natural world simply to serve the essentially suicidal infinite economic growth model will be identified for the insanity that it is. If we recognize, as biologist James Lovelock proposed, the Earth as a whole should be looked upon more like a self-regulating organism (Gaia hypothesis), or as mycologist Paul Stamet envisions, that there is a fungi-based internet within the ground connecting all living things on the planet in an information-sharing network, we will be less likely to both perceive and to treat the natural world as “other” to be dominated. We’ve also been reporting on the role of exosomes as cross-kingdom messengers, which provides a plausible mechanism for how all of the Earth’s inhabitants — plant, fungal, bacteria, animal, etc. — are linked together in an open access, information sharing network.

Recognizing that plants, for instance, have consciousness, or that their simple presence in our environment has healing effects, reintroduces an element of wonder and mystery back into the experience of the natural world. A perfect example of this can be found in the singing plants of the sacred forest of Damanhur. Damanhurian researchers in the mid-70’s reported using custom equipment to capture electromagnetic changes on the surface of leaves and roots and transforming them into audible signals. The researchers also observed that the plants learned to control their electrical responses, indicating they had some rudimentary awareness of the music they were creating. None of the agonies of suppression, nor the brutal discipline of conforming to a pattern, has led to truth. To come upon truth, the mind must be completely free, without a spot of distortion.

But first, let us ask ourselves if we really want to be free? When we talk of freedom are we talking about complete freedom or about freedom from some inconvenient or unpleasant or some undesirable thing? We would like to be free from painful and ugly memories and unhappy experiences but keep our pleasurable, satisfying ideologies, formulas and relationships. But to keep one without the other is impossible, for, as we have seen, pleasure is inseparable from pain.

So it is for each one of us to decide whether or not we want to be completely free. If we say we do, then we must understand the nature and structure of freedom.

Is it freedom when you are free from something – free from pain, free from some kind of anxiety? Or is freedom itself something entirely different?

Are You Really Free?

You can be free from jealousy, say, but isn’t that freedom a reaction and therefore not freedom at all? You can be free from dogma very easily, by analysing it, by kicking it out, but the motive for that freedom from dogma has its own reaction, because the desire to be free from a dogma may be that it is no longer fashionable or convenient. Or you can be free from nationalism because you believe in internationalism, or because you feel it is no longer economically necessary to cling to this silly nationalistic dogma, with its flag and all that rubbish. You can easily put that away. Or you may react against some spiritual or political leader who has promised you freedom as a result of discipline or revolt. But has such rationalism, such logical conclusion, anything to do with freedom?

If you say you are free from something, it is a reaction which will then become another reaction, which will bring about another conformity, another form of domination. In this way, you can have a chain of reactions and accept each reaction as freedom. But it is not freedom; it is merely a continuity of a modified past which the mind clings to.

The youth of today, like all youth, are in revolt against society and that is a good thing in itself, but revolt is not freedom because when you revolt, it is a reaction and that reaction sets up its own pattern. And you get caught in that pattern. You think it is something new, it is not; it is the old in a different mould. Any social or political revolt will inevitably revert to the good old bourgeois mentality.

Freedom is a State of Mind

Freedom comes only when you see and act, never through revolt. The seeing is the acting and such action is as instantaneous as when you see danger. Then there is no cerebration, no discussion or hesitation; the danger itself compels the act, and therefore, to see is to act and to be free.

Freedom is a state of mind – not freedom from something but a sense of freedom, a freedom to doubt and question everything and therefore so intense, active and vigorous that it throws away every form of dependence, slavery, conformity and acceptance. Such freedom implies being completely alone. But can the mind brought up in a culture so dependent on environment and its own tendencies ever find that freedom which is complete solitude, and in which there is no leadership, no tradition and no authority?

This solitude is an inward state of mind which is not dependent on any stimulus or any knowledge and is not the result of any experience or conclusion. Most of us, inwardly, are never alone. There is a difference between isolation; cutting oneself off, and aloneness, solitude. We all know what it is to be isolated – building a wall around oneself in order never to be hurt, never to be vulnerable, or cultivating detachment which is another form of agony, or living in some dreamy ivory tower of ideology. Aloneness is something quite different.

Living with Yourself as You Are

You are never alone because you are full of all the memories, all the conditioning, all the mutterings of yesterday; your mind is never clear of all the rubbish it has accumulated. To be alone you must die to the past. When you are alone, totally alone, not belonging to any family, any nation, any culture, any particular continent, there is that sense of being an outsider. The man who is completely alone in this way is innocent and it is this innocency that frees the mind from sorrow.

We carry about with us the burden of what thousands of people have said and the memories of all our misfortunes. To abandon all that totally is to be alone, and the mind that is alone is not only innocent but young – not in time or age, but young, innocent, alive at whatever age – and only such a mind can see that which is truth and that which is not measurable by words.

In this solitude, you will begin to understand the necessity of living with yourself as you are, not as you think you should be or as you have been. See if you can look at yourself without any tremor, any false modesty, any fear, any justification or condemnation – just live with yourself as you actually are.

The Caring of Observation

It is only when you live with something intimately that you begin to understand it. But the moment you get used to it – get used to your own anxiety or envy or whatever it is – you are no longer living with it. If you live by a river, after a few days you do not hear the sound of the water any more, or if you have a picture in the room which you see every day you lose it after a week. It is the same with the mountains, the valleys, the trees – the same with your family, your husband, your wife. But to live with something like jealousy, envy or anxiety you must never get used to it, never accept it. You must care for it as you would care for a newly planted tree, protect it against the sun, against the storm. You must care for it, not condemn it or justify it. Therefore you begin to love it. When you care for it, you are beginning to love it. It is not that you love being envious or anxious, as so many people do, but rather that you care for watching.

So can you – can you and I – live with what we actually are, knowing ourselves to be dull, envious, fearful, believing we have tremendous affection when we have not, getting easily hurt, easily flattered and bored? Can we live with all that, neither accepting it nor denying it, but just observing it without becoming morbid, depressed or elated?

If You Say, ‘I am Free’, Then You are Not Free

Now let us ask ourselves a further question. Is this freedom, this solitude, this coming into contact with the whole structure of what we are in ourselves – is it to become upon through time? That is, is freedom to be achieved through a gradual process? Obviously not, because as soon as you introduce time you are enslaving yourself more and more. You cannot become free gradually. It is not a matter of time.

The next question is, can you become conscious of that freedom? If you say, ‘I am free’, then you are not free. It is like a man saying, ‘I am happy‘. The moment he says, ‘I am happy’ he is living in a memory of something that has gone. Freedom can only come about naturally, not through wishing, wanting, longing. Nor will you find it by creating an image of what you think it is. To come upon it, the mind has to learn to look at life, which is a vast movement, without the bondage of time, for freedom lies beyond the field of consciousness.

A new study has found that exposure to certain pesticides can alter bees‘ genes, leading researchers to call for tougher regulations on the widely-used chemicals.

The study, published Wednesday in Molecular Ecology, looked at the impact of two neonicotinoidpesticides on bumblebee populations and found that they impacted genes involved in a variety of important biological processes.

“Governments had approved what they thought were ‘safe’ levels but pesticides intoxicate many pollinators, reducing their dexterity and cognition and ultimately survival,” lead study author Dr. Yannick Wurm of Queen Mary’s School of Biological and Chemical Sciences said in a press release. “This is a major risk because pollinators are declining worldwide yet are essential for maintaining the stability of the ecosystem and for pollinating crops.”

Previous studies had looked at the impact of neonicotinoids on the behaviors of bees, showing that exposure impaired their ability to forage and develop colonies. But this study, conducted by researchers at Queen Mary University of London and Imperial College London, focused on how those impacts occur on the molecular level.

“Our work reveals that neurotoxic pesticides not only directly target the cells of the nervous system, but also indirectly affect the normal activity of the exposed organism’s genes,” study author Dr. Richard Gill of the Department of Life Sciences at Imperial College London said in a press release.

The researchers studied the impact of realistic concentrations of two neonicotinoids on bumblebees: clothianidin and imidacloprid. They found that clothianidin had a stronger effect and that queens and workers were impacted differently. Clothianidin exposure altered the activity levels of 55 worker genes, making 31 more active and the rest less active.

“This could indicate that their bodies are reorienting resources to try to detoxify, which the researchers suspect is what some of the genes are doing. For other genes, the changes could represent the intermediate effects of intoxication that lead to affected behavior,” the Queen Mary press release explained.

For queens, 17 genes saw their activity levels altered, with 16 becoming more active.

While neonicotinoids were banned in the EU in 2018, they are still widely used elsewhere.

The researchers thought that the study mechanism could be used to assess the specific impact of pesticides on other pollinators.

“We examined the effects of two pesticides on one species of bumblebee. But hundreds of pesticides are authorised, and their effects are likely to substantially differ across the 200,000 pollinating insect species which also include other bees, wasps, flies, moths, and butterflies,” first study author Dr. Joe Colgan of Queen Mary University said.

The study comes about a month after another study warned that insect populations around the world are in grave danger, and the widespread use of pesticides is one of the main reasons why.

An 81-year-old man, who has not yet been identified, managed to shrink his tumors in half after being diagnosed with lung cancer and refusing traditional cancer treatment such as chemotherapy and radiation.

The man, who previously smoked around 18 cigarettes per day but quit 45 years ago, repeatedly refused medical treatments offered by doctors after being diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the lung, opted to take cannabidiol (CBD) oil instead. After three months of almost daily use, scans of the man’s lungs showed that, not only did the tumors reduce in size by half, but the progression of the disease was completely reversed.

The man’s doctors have published the stunning scans and detailed his case in SAGE.

In October 2016, the man, who had previously been diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes, and prostate cancer (in remission), made an appointment with his primary care doctor after dealing with shortness of breath but no cough for the previous three weeks. An x-ray revealed a shadow in his left lung, which a follow-up CT scan confirmed as a 2.5 × 2.5 cm mass. A biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of lung adenocarcinoma and mediastinal lymph nodes.

The report highlights the fact that, despite the improvement of targeted therapy in lieu of conventional therapy for lung cancer as well as the availability of new drugs, “lung cancer is associated with a very poor prognosis.” Because “it is not uncommon for many patients to have only a partial response, and relapse during follow-up,” it is not unusual for some patients to decline medical treatment altogether or opt for a natural alternative instead, especially later in life when available treatments tend to have a more detrimental effect on the body.

According to the report:

Prior work has shown that cannabidiol may have anti-neoplastic properties and enhance the immune response to cancer. The data presented here indicate that cannabidiol might have led to a striking response in a patient with lung cancer.”

The man reported that he began taking CBD oil (200 mg CBD in 10 mL) in September of 2017. He began with two drops twice daily for a week before increasing to nine drops twice daily for the rest of the month. After a November CT scan, he increased his dose to nine drops twice a day, save for a short break in which he felt the taste caused slight nausea, but never actually made him physically ill.

During the period of the time in which the tumor’s shrunk, there were no notable changes in the man’s diet, lifestyle, or medication.

CBD oil is a non-psychoactive phytocannabinoid found in cannabis plants (or Cannabis sativa). It has been shown to aid users in treating anxiety, arthritis, pain, depression, and more and is being used with increasingly frequency to relieve pain associated with cancer and cancer treatment and in an attempt to treat the cancer itself.

While experts warn that the case presented is just one instance of a cannabis success story and that the ability of cannabis to have any impact on cancer whatsoever is unproven, the report noted the importance of being “attentive to patients where the disease responds to treatments not considered standard in clinical practice.”

It was reported last year that an 83-year-old man named Gary Hill, who was also diagnosed with lung cancer, was also able to successfully shrink his tumor by using CBD oil. Reports citing anecdotal evidence continually surface detailing how cancer patients using cannabidiol were able to shrink or completely cure their cancers including skinbreast, and liver cancers. In extreme cases, some patients have even halted conventional treatment due to a significant risk that they may not even survive it, only to later cure their cancer using CBD oil. Such a case, involving a three-year-old girl, was reported by People magazine in 2018.

A near-death experience is when a person appears to be clinically “dead” for a short period — when the heart stops beating, the brain registers no sign of activity and other vital signs indicate death — and yet they report a continuation of consciousness. This may happen following a cardiac arrest, for example. For a few seconds or minutes, a person may show no biological signs of life, and yet when they are resuscitated, report that a series of unusual experiences.

Typically, near-death experiences begin with a feeling of separation from the body (or out-of-body experience), sometimes with a humming or whistling sound. Then there is usually a journey through a dark passage or tunnel towards a place of light. There is a feeling of serenity and intense well-being, a sense of calmness and wholeness, which is often so pleasant that some people are reluctant to return to their bodies, and even feel disappointed when they regain consciousness. Often people meet deceased relatives or beings of light. In a smaller proportion of cases, there is a “life review,” in which the significant events of a person’s life are replayed.

Throughout the experience, people feel that their senses have become heightened — everything they experience has a quality of intense realness. In contrast to hallucinations, NDEs feel much more real than our ordinary experience. There is often also a sense of being outside time. Even though a person may only be unconscious for a few seconds, they may undergo a complex succession of experiences that may appear to last for hours. There is also a sense of connectedness or unity. The sense of being a separate entity, enclosed within our own mental space, is replaced by a sense of being part of an interconnected network of being, of sharing identity with other people, or the world in general.

Near-death experiences are controversial because it is difficult to explain them in neurological terms. Many suggestions have been made — for example, that they are caused by cerebral anoxia, by undetected brain activity, or the release of “psychedelic chemicals” like DMT or ketamine in the brain when a person is close to death. From this point of view, NDEs are nothing more than brain-created hallucinations, no more real than dreams.

The After-Effects of NDEs

However, one of the most striking things about near-death experiences is their long-term effect. They frequently bring about a profound shift of values and perspective, which itself leads to major lifestyle changes. People often become less materialistic and more altruistic, less self-oriented and more compassionate. They often feel a new sense of purpose, and their relationships become more authentic and intimate. They report becoming more sensitive to beauty, and more appreciative of everyday things. One person who had an NDE after a heart attack told the researcher Margot Grey, “Since then, everything has been so different… The sky is so blue and the trees are much greener; everything is so much more beautiful. My senses are so much sharper.” People often report becoming more intuitive too, and even sometimes developing psychic abilities. Another woman told Margot Grey that she felt “a very heightened sense of love, the ability to communicate love, the ability to find joy and pleasure in the most insignificant things about me…I seemed to have a very heightened awareness, I would say almost telepathic abilities.”

One of the most significant effects of NDEs is a loss of the fear of death. Because NDEs have such a powerful quality of realness, most people are convinced that they really have briefly experienced death. As a result, they become certain that there is life after death. And since their NDE was such a blissful experience — so blissful that people are sometimes disappointed to return to their bodies — any anxiety they may have had about dying dissolves away. It’s probable that an unconscious fear of death is a major source of a lot of pathological human behavior — such as materialism and status-seeking — so when this fear disappears, it has a major effect. So the loss of fear of death probably contributes significantly to some of the other changes I’ve already mentioned, such as a shift away from materialism.

It’s remarkable that one single experience can have such a profound, long-lasting transformational effect. And this is illustrated by research showing that people who have near-death experiences following suicide attempts very rarely attempt suicide again. This is in stark contrast to the normal pattern – in fact, a previous suicide attempt is usually the strongest predictor of actual suicide.

And in my view, the fact that they have such profound after-effects makes it seem very unlikely that NDEs are a brain-generated hallucination. Hallucinations certainly do not have these kinds of transformational after-effects. They are usually quickly forgotten, with a clear sense that they were delusional experiences, less authentic and reliable than ordinary consciousness. But with near-death experiences, there is a clear sense that what we experience is more real and authentic than normal consciousness, and our vision of reality — and our values and attitude to life — are completely transformed.

So if NDEs can’t be explained in neurological terms, how can they be explained? Perhaps to a large extent, they can’t be explained. The Indian government’s Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved measures to promote the hydropower sector that include declaring large hydropower projects to be part of the non-solar renewable purchase obligation (RPO).

It was 2006 when Congressperson Cynthia McKinney exposed the prevalence of trafficking women and children within the US government. Today, this information is continually leaking out and, as a result, the global elite have deemed it a ‘conspiracy theory’ without ever addressing all of the information and evidence that’s emerged.

In regards to McKinney, she grilled Donald Rumsfeld on DynCorp’s involvement in the trafficking of women and children. (source)  This is why it wasn’t much of a surprise when I came across the fact that James Grazioplene, a high-ranking retired army general who worked in the Pentagon as the Vice President of DynCorp, was charged with raping multiple children. Since 2016, there have been 10 current and former U.S. Mayors accused of child sex crimes.

It seems that corruption and power go hand in hand,  one of the most recent examples is Cardinal George Pell, who recently became the highest ranking Vatican official convicted of child sexual abuse. Another example is the  NBC news report that implicated Hillary Clinton in covering up a massive pedophile ring in the heart of the State Department, and when ex-Nebraska policewoman, Kathryn Bolkovac, who served as a UN peacekeeper and worked under DynCorp, learned about elite level sex trafficking involving the UN, the State department and the military and exposed the truth.

Imagine if this type of information made headline news. If it did, it would immediately be taken out of the ‘conspiracy category.’ Unfortunately, they present it as a conspiracy and that’s because, in my opinion, the major shareholders and heads of these networks are also involved in such activities.

One of the latest to provide some information on this is Dr. Steve Pieczenik, a former United States Department of State official and a Harvard trained psychiatrist with a Doctorate in International Relations from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He held many roles within the US political system, including as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State under Henry Kissinger, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Regan, and George H.W. Bush. He has worked for numerous agencies, including the CIA, and is one of several government insiders who is acting very brave. (source)

Apart from all of the evidence, including the information mentioned above, witness testimonies from people with multiple different professional and educational backgrounds who have been on the inside are important to listen to, too.

In one of Steve’s latest videos, he implicates one of his former employers, George H.W. Bush, who he served in the capacity of Deputy Assistant Secretary.

When talking about the subject, he states,

It has been rampant in our government, if you remember Bush Sr. had a whole group of young Hispanic men who he groomed and played with. At the same time, Hillary and Bill Clinton along with their friend Mr. Epstein went down to the Bahamas and they were molesting and utilizing young girls and boys to have sexual pleasures, but nothing was done about the fact that Jeffrey Epstein had been guilty and convicted of that crime.

The latest news regarding Epstein is that federal judge Kenneth A. Marra declared that a 2008 plea deal made by federal prosecutor Alexander Acosta in the sexual assault case of Jeffery Epstein was against the law. Epstein is close with not only the Clinton’s, but the royal family as well as other people in high places of power. As far back as 2007, he was accused of assembling a large, cult-like network of underage girls — with the help of young female recruiters — to coerce into having sexual acts behind the walls of his opulent waterfront mansion in Florida as often as three times a day, according to Palm Beach police. In the video below, Pieczenik goes into how this issue is rampant in Florida after the recent news that New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft was charged with two counts of soliciting prostitution with a Florida spa tied to an international human trafficking ring.

What About Ritual Abuse?

All of these activities seem to plague the Vatican (Church), the Royal Families, politics, and media/entertainment. It’s running rampant in circles that hold tremendous amounts of power and by those who are able to influence our perception of our world, politics, etc. so easily simply due to the fact that they hold so much power. Never before has so much information leaked out into the public domain where it’s blatantly obvious to see, despite the fact that it’s rarely addressed within the mainstream, and when it is addressed it’s usually ridiculed and mocked.

But is this just sexual abuse, or is it ritualistic abuse?

“Rumors, always difficult to verify, tied its installation to the beginning of Pope Paul VI’s reign in 1963. Indeed Paul had alluded somberly to ‘the smoke of Satan which has entered the Sanctuary’. . . an oblique reference to an enthronement ceremony by Satanists in the Vatican. Besides, the incidence of Satanic pedophilia – rites and practices – was already documented among certain bishops and priests as widely dispersed as Turin, in Italy, and South Carolina, in the United States. The cultic acts of Satanic pedophilia are considered by professionals to be the culmination of the Fallen Archangel’s rites.” (The Secret Teachings of All Ages)

The statement above comes from Manly P. Hall, who was referencing Malachi Martin, an Irish Catholic priest and writer on the Catholic Church. Originally ordained as a Jesuit priest, he became a Professor of Palaeography at the Vatican’s Pontifical Biblical Institute. Malachi was one of multiple Vatican insiders who spoke out against Satanism and the ritual abuse that allegedly plagues the Vatican.

This is why when we come across stories of Vatican officials being charged with abuse, it’s not far off to assume these practices are in relation to some form of ritual abuse and demonic worship.

Another revealing quote by Hall:

“By means of the secret processes of ceremonial magic it is possible to contact these invisible creatures and gain their help in some human undertaking. Good spirits willingly lend their assistance to any worthy enterprise, but evil spirits serve only those who live to pervert and destroy. . . . The most dangerous form of black magic is the scientific perversion of occult power for the gratification of personal desire.” (The Secret Teachings of All Ages)

Could we be seeing the same thing with politics? Dark rituals like the ‘Cremation of Care’ performed every year at Bohemian Grove, whether an actual or a mock sacrifice, impacts participants by dulling and eliminating their ‘care’–their empathy for others and their conscience. The complex, behind-the-scenes story of what is going on in the dark sanctuaries of world power is coming into view, piece by piece. A lot is still hidden, but that has as much to do with our collective reluctance to truly confront the darkness as it does with anything else.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Bohemian Grove, every year, the top movers and shakers of the world–male only–are invited to an exclusive, weeks-long vacation in July at the ‘Bohemian Grove,’ a restricted 2,700-acre campground located in Monte Rio, California. The blueprint is tried and true: many or most high-profile celebrities, politicians and businessmen are attracted to rich surroundings, indulgence of the senses, and the lure of being part of an ‘exclusive’ club that holds a secret mystique that will always remain hidden from ‘ordinary people.’  You can read more about that here.  There is a video in there as well as more information.

Below is a quote published in European Psychiatry that also discusses it.

There are supporters of abuse survivors who bore witness to and believe disclosures of extreme abuse and ritual violence, and ‘False Memory’ adherents who consider Ritual Abuse an unfounded ‘moral panic’. Survivors provide chilling accounts of ritual killings in Scott (2001), Becker, Karriker, Overkamp and Rutz (2008) and Epstein, Schwartz and Schwartz (2011). In the wake of institutional abuse enquiries and the ‘unbelievable’ child abuse perpetrated by celebrities like Jimmy Saville and Ian Watkins, a ‘new reality’ is setting in that child abuse is pervasive and knows no limits. Reports of elaborate rituals with ‘mock’ human sacrifices at the highly secretive annual ‘Bohemian Grove’ summer festival point towards a pervasive interest in the occult in high society. (source)

The Takeaway

Our inability to accept and confront ‘dark’ aspects of our world is one reason why these crimes are still being committed. It’s a reflection of how we fail to confront the darkness within ourselves; but, if we are truly trying to be of service to others and to put others first, then we must shed light onto the darker aspects of the human experience. These crimes must be exposed.

Today, humanity is becoming aware of these facts, and it forces us to question all of our belief systems. Who are our ‘leaders,’ the people made out to be saints and humanitarians? What is going on here? All of this is simply another example that proves that the people who hold so much power over us and our resources clearly do not have our best interests at heart.

I remember it like it was yesterday. It was the middle of the night, and I was alone pacing across the lawn of my dad’s backyard lit by nothing but the moon. I’m not typically an insomniac, but my anxiety had made me into one, and this particular bout with it was undoubtedly one of the most exhausting I had ever endured.

It was the tenth straight day that severe anxiety refused to let up within me. I barely slept, had no appetite, and had no solution -despite the incredible love and support that I had from those close to me at the time. I was fully convinced that I would be stuck either in an anxiety attack or living in fear of the next one for the rest of my life.

That night will officially celebrate its 5-year anniversary in April and, more importantly, I will be celebrating 3 years without anxiety ever seriously attempting to butt itself back into my life.

But getting to this point wasn’t easy. As many of you reading this likely know, anxiety can be overwhelming, relentless, exhausting, and a number of other largely unpleasant adjectives both individually and simultaneously. Conquering it for this long–and hopefully for good–has taken a lot of research and persistence, but the good news is that I’d like to share with you one of the simplest tools I found to be among the most successful at keeping anxiety at bay.

You Can’t Say I Didn’t Warn You

I will warn you that on the surface, this particular method for stopping an anxiety attack may seem incredibly simplistic. But I challenge you to go beyond how your mind may initially want to judge it and to instead give it a fair shot (and yes, that means trying it more than once), since it can actually be quite powerful.

It has not only helped me on countless occasions to both stop or prevent an attack, but I’ve also coached several others through it, all of which now sing its praises as one of the quickest techniques that they can readily turn to.

Attack It With Gratitude

The name that I have given this particular tool is ‘Attack It With Gratitude.’ And as the name suggests, it involves countering your pending or existing panic and anxiety with thoughts centered around things that you are grateful for.

What makes this simple mental activity so powerful is that even though anxiety attacks can quite easily engage and overwhelm our entire bodies, preventing us from being able to function in even the most simple of ways, the main aspect fuelling its existence is our thoughts.

It’s OUR THOUGHTS that sell us on the idea that we are not okay right now. It’s OUR THOUGHTS that make us believe that we will never be able to function normally again. So it’s therefore OUR THOUGHTS that we want to reclaim the driver’s seat from, since they are at the core of what we are either on the cusp of or currently experiencing.

By forcing ourselves to list off things that we’re grateful for in life, we’re commanding those thoughts in a direction that starves rather than feeds the anxiety.

I’ve Got Nothing To Be Grateful For

We all know that life is inherently quite challenging, but I am a firm believer that no matter how difficult things are for you right now, everyone has plenty to be grateful for. To help spark your realization of this you can start by being incredibly simplistic (examples: I am grateful for my family. I am grateful for my dog). Or if it’s easier, you can get specific (example: I am grateful for the way that my dog Sparky looks at me when I get home from work every day).

Literally list off anything and everything that comes to mind. And if this really doesn’t come naturally to you, that’s okay! I really want you to try using this technique, so I’ve put together a list of 100 GRATITUDE STATEMENTS for us all to consider being grateful for.

Of course not all of these statements will apply to you, but many of them will, and even those that don’t may trigger others that you did not initially think of.

It’s also important to note that the primary goal of the exercise is not to consistently list off as many things as you can, but to instead refocus your mind away from the anxiety. So whether you’re steadily listing things off or you find yourself pre-occupied with trying to think of the next one, you’re still stealing the processing power that otherwise would be consumed with convincing you why you should be freaking out right now.
